Top 6 Scary Movies of All Time

Since it is Halloween and all I thought I might share with you my picks on the top six scarcest movies ever made.

6. Evil Dead - Is basically about, “five friends that go up to a cabin in the woods where they find unspeakable evil lurking in the forest. They find the Necronomicon and the taped translation of the text. Once the tape is played, the evil is released. One by one, the teens become deadly zombies. With only one remaining, it is up to him to survive the night and battle the evil dead.” taken from imdb.com. A great low budget film, that took the zombie element to another level.

5. Friday the 13th - Who doesn’t know the story of a boy named Jason Voorhees that drowned at Camp Crystal Lake. After the drowning, a few killings the camp was closed, and later reopened which sparks a series of gruesome murders. One of the better slasher films ever made.

Halloween

4. A Nightmare on Elm Street - Is basically about Freddy Krueger a man that harmed little kids was killed violently, being thrown into a fire oven reappears in a group of teenagers dreams. Nancy the main character begins having nightmares about Freddy Krueger, scarred and disfigured wearing a glove with knives attached. As her friends begin to die, Nancy realizes that she obviously must stay awake to survive. Discovering the secret identity of the nightmare killer and his relationship with the children of Elm Street, the girl lures him out into the real world.

3. Halloween - Michael Myers has been institutionalized for 15 years for the brutal murder of his old sister. After escaping from the institute he then returns to the one community that he dearly remembers terrorizing the community with some horrific murders.

Friday the 13th

2. The Exorcist - Based on the 1971 novel by William Peter Blatty of a real possession that happened in a Washington suburb puts Regan, a teenage girl, living with her mother into complicated situations. She displays strange warning signs, including levitation and abnormal physical feats. When all medical possibilities are ruled out, Regan’s mother is sent to a priest. He becomes convinced that Regan is possessed and his collogue, a priest, knowledgeable in exorcisms try to drive the spirit from Regan before she dies. Any movie that had ambulances outside of the theaters when it debuted deserves to be in the top two films.

1. Night of the Living Dead - My favorite horror film of all time made in 1968 this black and white classic set the stage for the modern day zombies that we see on the big screens. Basically it is about a group of people barricading themselves inside a farm house in an attempt to survive the night after being chased by zombies. The zombies were that of the dead corpses that came back to life in search of human flesh after radiation from a fallen satellite began falling from the sky.

How to upgrade your PC memory?

I would highly recommend visiting crucial.com to check for compatible memory, appropriate for your computer. At crucial.com you will have to run scan to find the best suited memory this scan should take no more then five minutes. Once you have discovered which memory is compatible you can then either visit your local electronic store such as Radio Shack or purchase it directly online from Tiger Direct. Be sure to shop around for the best pricing because we are trying to save money, some optional brands are Kingston or Buffalo depending on the type of memory. Once you have gotten your brand new memory there are a few things that we need to do before we start going tech happy:

  1. Make sure that you fully turn off your computer and completely disconnect all of the cords from the back of your computer tower.
  2. Be sure to place your computer tower off any rug, carpet, or any materials which could conduct an electrical spark which could result in some extra spending, on top of the money you have already spent on the memory i.e. a new motherboard.
  3. You should find your computer’s owner manual just so that you have some type of an idea on how to open your computer’s casing, but if you can’t find the owner’s manual I will give you a tip that might be of some help. If your computer has a fan opening on the side of the casing then that is the side you want to open, not the front or the back. The side casing panel should be held by two or more screws. Once the screws are removed slide the side casing off making sure not to scratch the tower.
  4. Once you have the casing open you are going to lay the tower on its side so that the opening is on the top, so that you can install the new memory please do this with caution your computer might be a little on the heavy side depending on the type of brand you have as well as components installed.
  5. Please note that if your computer memory is at full capacity and you are upgrading the memory you will have to first uninstall that memory then install the new one. But before you touch anything you should touch some type of an object to remove any electricity you might have conducted during the first few steps.
  6. You can remove the old memory by placing your thumb or index finger on top of the clips show below this will allow the PC memory to come out for removal, notice the direction of the arrows. Once this is finished you can then put in the new memory by doing the exact opposite. Place the memory in the slot then push the memory down applying even pressure on both sides, you will know when the memory is properly in place when the two clips lock in to place.
  7. Close up the casing and reconnect the corresponding wires to the back of your tower and start back up your machine. Once your computer has booted up right click your my computer on your desktop and select properties you will then note your new memory standings.

I hope this tech tip was helpful to those of you that never installed a PC memory before until next time happy teching.

2008 Nissan Rogue

2008 Nissan Rogue

So yesterday I decided it was time to for me to trade in my car, I had it for about seven or so years. The car, 2001 Lexus IS300, was still in excellent condition I had put a lot of money into it but I just decided it was time to go. With over 89,000 miles I knew that it was only a matter of time before I was going to have to start doing some really expensive maintenance work on the vehicle. So, I decided to go to the Nissan dealer yesterday and check out some of the new cars that they had there. I wanted something that would be great in the snow but fuel efficient as well. I saw that Nissan had just come out with a new vehicle called the Rogue. The outside had similar body styling to that of a Murano, but the outside styling alone wasn’t going make me sign the papers that quickly. So, I decided to take a SL model out for a test drive and to my surprise it had very good throttle response when gas was applied not showing that it is a 2.5-liter DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder at all. The ride was that of car, it did not feel tipsy what so every, taking the turns very nicely, I said to myself, “this might actually be my next car”. So we went back to the dealer and that is where I learned that the gas mileage was very first-rate giving about 21 miles on city streets and 26 miles on the highway. Once I learned this I was sold. I decided to get a 2008 Nissan Rogue fully loaded. The SL model that I chose came with AWD, Bluetooth, Leather, Xenon Headlights, Bose Stereo System, and so much more all for under $30,000. This new small SUV that I now own is a great buy for anyone thinking about commuting during those harsh winter months, take a drive upstate to do some apple picking, or getting away to the beach for so some good rest and relaxation while still being mindful of the gas pump.

Heroes on G4TV…?

Heroes on NBC

Well I hope everyone has enjoyed the first day of their weekend still one day to go before the start of a new work week. I know not much to celebrate there, but there is a brighter side to the start of a new work week and that is Monday night television, well for me any way. We all know that Monday night is the one night when we can sit down and take pleasure watching in Heroes on NBC. If there are people out there that are not too fond of the whole, “save the cheerleader save the world” jargon then I suggest that you tune into G4 TV to view the whole first season in its entirety and see what the whole craze is about. They are running a special marathon this entire weekend beginning today at 12pm lasting through Sunday October 28th 2007. G4TV is basically gearing up to run season 2 which has already begun on NBC. They are saying on their site, g4tv.com, that it will be live and interactive starting on November 3rd 2007. Personally, I would much rather watch it on Monday night in high definition…but for all of you that haven’t seen it or haven’t gotten into it this is your chance. So see what all the talk is about.

Personal Computer Buyers Guide…

Well, since this is my first blog, I wanted to make my first entry a special one. I figured I should give the consumers advice on how to purchase a personal computer, seeing that I am the biggest nerd you will every find! So, let’s get down to business. Let’s assume that you don’t own a computer and wanted to purchase one for the first time; this might be kind of difficult because if you don’t have a computer how would you be reading my blog in the first place! Okay, moving right along; let’s assume that you want a new computer that’s better so you walk into your local mom and pop store such as: Best Buy, Circuit City, Dell, and Apple. The sales associate approaches you and says, “How may I help you today?” and you reply, “I’m looking to purchase a new computer not too expensive, but fast.” The sales associate, if trained correctly, will begin a big speech about the ram, gigs, processor speed, etc. Although that mumble jumble may be useful to someone who knows about computer, the average consumer has one goal in mind. The goal is to find a computer that is cheap and fast!

Here are some terms that will be useful in the event that you are purchasing your own computer. You will need to know what these terms mean prior to entering any computer stores.

  1. CPU - Abbreviation of central processing unit, and pronounced as separate letters. The CPU is the brains of the computer. Sometimes referred to simply as the processor or central processor, the CPU is where most calculations take place. In terms of computing power, the CPU is the most important element of a computer system. ~ http://www.webopedia.com/
  2. RAM - Pronounced ramm, acronym for random access memory, a type of computer memory that can be accessed randomly; that is, any byte of memory can be accessed without touching the preceding bytes. RAM is the most common type of memory found in computers and other devices, such as printers….In common usage, the term RAM is synonymous with main memory, the memory available to programs. For example, a computer with 8M RAM has approximately 8 million bytes of memory that programs can use. ~ http://www.webopedia.com/
  3. Cache - Pronounced cash, a special high-speed storage mechanism. It can be either a reserved section of main memory or an independent high-speed storage device. Two types of caching are commonly used in personal computers: memory caching and disk caching. ~ http://www.webopedia.com/
  4. Hard Drive - The mechanism that reads and writes data on a hard disk. Hard disk drives (HDDs) for PCs generally have seek times of about 12 milliseconds or less. Many disk drives improve their performance through a technique called caching. ~ http://www.webopedia.com/

Those are the four main components of your computer. There are several others; however these four will be most important while purchasing your computer. You can find these definitions and more on webopedia.com. This site serves as a great reference.

The processors that are available on the market are currently sufficient for a buyer that only wants to browse the internet and write a word documents. A computer with a Intel® Core(TM)2 Duo with a speed of 1.86GHz, with a bus speed of 1066MHz, and Cache Memory 2MB would be more than adequate. In this case 1 to 2GB of RAM will do just fine, however I would recommend a 2GB. If you are using multiple tabs or the browser Internet windows, it’ll use up your memory.

For the more experienced user looking to play mp3’s, stream live video, while surfing the web, and doing a little bit of online shopping all at the same time while running a media room should upgrade a little bit. I would recommend a Intel® Core(TM)2 Duo with a speed of 2.2GHz, with a bus speed of 1066MHz, and Cache Memory 2MB or higher would be more then enough. In this case I would have to go with 2GB of RAM or higher along with a monster size hard drive 500GB or more just because of the amount of data that will be stored on your computer images, videos, songs, and whatever else the case maybe.

Finally for the high end user that is a developer or a designer you might want to think about getting yourself a computer that has Intel® Core(TM)2 Quad with a processor speed of 2.4GHz, with a bus of 1066MHz, 4MB of cache. You should think about getting 3GB of RAM expandable to about 8GB just to think about for future upgrading purposes. A hard drive of about 250GB should do a great job of holding your data and design files perfectly.

So you’re probably wondering how much of dent will this put in my wallet! Well, for the average user you could spend an estimated amount of $600.00 - $750.00. For the more advanced user you would be spending roughly $750.00 - $900.00. On the more expensive end, an experienced user such as a coder or gamer, you can look to spend about $975.00 and up. Granted these are just estimated assumptions. On the brighter side, with new advances coming out daily these prices could change the same day. Maybe even after I publish this blog! Well, hopefully I helped some of you out and I hope that you will visit my blog again until next time happy shopping.
