Zune 30GB Frozen Z2K9 Fix

I actually saw how many people’s Zune 30GB froze aka Z2K9 including my manager’s, so I offered to fix it. Basically I found out that taking the Zune apart is not the answer it actually still boots up and freezes on the Zune load page. The proper way to fix the problem is;

1) Drain the battery completely.
2) Next re-charge the Zune when the Zune is about to load quickly press the LEFT ARROW, LEFT MIDDLE, and CENTER buttons all at the same time.
3) This will then prompt you to clear the contents of your Zune.
4) Let this screen stay like this for about 6hrs, then let the battery drain again.
5) Once drained re-charge the battery and it should be good to go.

Check out my Video it has both options first is disassembly if that does not work then the second option is the step by step that is above and shown in the video. Hope this helps out any of you with a dead Zune.

Microsoft Courier

So I recently saw the article posted on Gizmodo about the new Microsoft Courier, and I have to say I am really impressed and disappointed. I was saying impressed because of the simplicity and the amount of functionality that is available with the Courier. I was disappointed in the fact that Apple has been discussing a tablet laptop for a few months now and nothing has been made into a concept. I guess the hype alone might be good enough for some people but for people like me I actually need to see a working concept or even a simulation of a prototype. If you haven’t seen the video please check it out below.

Digital Photo Frame Video

Below is a video of the IBM Thinkpad A21m that I converted into a digital photo frame, at least now you can see it in action.

My Laptop Digital Photo Frame

So I recently decided to try something that I have seen on the internet but with no real explanation as to how to accomplish this I figured let me try it out for myself. I got a laptop free of charge from my sister-in law she wasn’t using it any longer so I decided to convert it into a digital photo frame. I disassembled the IBM Thinkpad A21m, Intel Pentium 3 128mb of RAM really slow. All I basically needed was the motherboard, memory, hard drive, network adapter, and LCD screen. Once disassembled I purchased two mat boards and a custom shadow box frame. I then fastened the board to the mat using bolts from Home Depot along with the other necessary parts. On the second mat board I cut a hole for the LCD to be shown through about 14 inches. I then duct taped the screen to the mat board and placed it in the 15 inch custom frame. And placed the boarded mat on the top using spacers in between not to put pressure on the LCD screen. The only down side is that the power button is built on the keyboard so this had to stay on as well, see below for the final result, currently I am trying to trouble shoot a power issue I get to the windows login then it powers down I think it is a memory issue but I shall have to see.

MyBook Pro Conversion

So recently my Western Digital, MyBook Pro, died at work. I decided to ask my manger to purchase a new hard drive and I will attempt to replace the drive myself. So he ordered the drive from Western Digital a new eco-drive, when the drive arrived I took it home and disassembled the MyBook. Once taken apart I realized that the hard drive was not going to fit because the adapters were incorrect. So I made due with what I had, I made a make shift hole at the top running the wires up and out. I figured the reason the drive failed in the first place was because of overheating issues and being written to every night as a temporary backup using a custom script I had written. With this in mind I decided to make housing for a fan to supply air to the MyBook hard drive. I made Plexiglas housing and mounted the fan directly on top taking power from the hard drive. Pictures are displayed below let me know what do you think. Oh yeah it’s fully functional as well.

Please note that I do not condone this in any way, this could cause you to lose data, and or break your warranty with Western Digital. Try at your own risk.

NY Auto Show Mid-Size Super Cars

I so recently visited the New York International Auto Show just this past weekend and I have to say I think this year was the year of the foreign mid-size super cars. At the show there was the 2009 Nissan GT-R with its 3.8 liter twin turbo 24-valve V6 motor producing 480hp with 430 lb.-ft. of torque, with a price tag of over $100,000 it’s suppose to be the most expensive Nissan to date. Also at the show was the 2008 Lexus IS-F with its 32- valve V8 producing 416hp with 371 lb.-ft. of torque. This car is not only going to be one of these fastest cars out there under $100,000, but is also the first 8-speed sport direct shift automatic with paddle shifters and manual mode. The BMW M3 Sedan and Coupe were both present at the show sporting their 4.0-liter, V-8 engine producing 414hp to the rear-wheels starting at $53,800.

iPhone Controls Vehicle CES 2008

With CES 2008 already gone I figured that I would highlight something that I thought was pretty cool. Basically it is Delphi iPhone control that actually allows you to control your vehicle. You can actually start the car, check its diagnostics, control the windows, and so much more without altering your iPhone. The application just runs through the Safari Browser. Just check it out for yourself at iPhone Controls Vehicle in Real Time Using Delphi’s Concept Web App on Gizmodo.

Apple Digital Movie Rentals?

According to G4TV yesterday there are rumors circulating that Apple wants to take on the digital movie rental market. With talks like this are we really that far from the digital age that everyone is talking about. Personally I think this might seem appealing to some but it will be a while before we all will stop going to the local Blockbuster to pick up a newly released movie and package of microwave popcorn. For one thing if they are to succeed in this market they will have to tackle the popular and growing Netflix with their cheap digital downloads.
